The Clinton Foundation accepted millions of dollars from seven foreign governments during Hillary Rodham Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, including one donation that violated its ethics agreement with the Obama administration, foundation officials disclosed Wednesday.
Most of the contributions were possible because of exceptions written into the foundation’s 2008 agreement, which included limits on foreign-government donations.
The agreement, reached before Clinton’s nomination amid concerns that countries could use foundation donations to gain favor with a Clinton-led State Department, allowed governments that had previously donated money to continue making contributions at similar levels.

The new disclosures, provided in response to questions from The Washington Post, make clear that the 2008 agreement did not prohibit foreign countries with interests before the U.S. government from giving money to the charity closely linked to the secretary of state.

In one instance, foundation officials acknowledged they should have sought approval in 2010 from the State Department ethics office, as required by the agreement for new government donors, before accepting a $500,000 donation from the Algerian government.

The money was given to assist with earthquake relief in Haiti, the foundation said. At the time, Algeria, which has sought a closer relationship with Washington, was spending heavily to lobby the State Department on human rights issues.

While the foundation has disclosed foreign-government donors for years, it has not previously detailed the donations that were accepted during Clinton’s four-year stint at the State Department.

The story goes on to list the reasons why the pay gap talking point is wrong. Among them:

• Men are far more likely to choose careers that are more dangerous, so they naturally pay more.

• Men are far more likely to work in higher-paying fields and occupations (by choice).

• Men are far more likely to take work in uncomfortable, isolated, and undesirable locations that pay more.

• Men work longer hours than women do.

• Men are more likely to take jobs that require work on weekends and evenings and therefore pay more.

• Even within the same career category, men are more likely to pursue high-stress and higher-paid areas of specialization.

• Despite all of the above, unmarried women who’ve never had a child actually earn more than unmarried men, according to Nemko and data compiled from the Census Bureau.

• Women business owners make less than half of what male business owners make, which, since they have no boss, means it’s independent of discrimination.

GOP PAC: Clinton Foundation Should Return Its Millions in Foreign Money

 The Clinton Foundation has come under criticism from Republicans over its decision to once again accept contributions from foreign governments, Politico reported.

The Manhattan-based foundation, formally named the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, stopped taking money from foreign governments in 2009 when former first lady Hillary Clinton joined the Obama administration as secretary of state.

After she left the Foggy Bottom in 2013,  the foundation dropped the ban.

America Rising PAC charged that it is inappropriate for someone in Clinton's position — particularly because she is the likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate — to be seen as beholden to foreign powers. It called on the foundation to return the foreign money it has already accepted.
"The alarming rate at which these contributions are now coming in presents a massive conflict-of-interest problem for her," said Republican National Committee spokesman Michael Short. "When that 3 a.m. phone call comes, do voters really want to have a president on the line who took truckloads of cash from other countries? Absolutely not," The Wall Street Journal reported.


The United Arab Emirates, a first-time donor, gave between $1 million and $5 million in 2014.

Saudi Arabia has channeled between $10 million and $25 million into the coffers of the foundation since its creation in 1999.

Australia, Germany, Norway, Italy and the Netherlands were also contributors.

"The potential conflict of interest for someone in Clinton's position requires they return the money, and the ethical lapse to accept the money in the first place calls into question Hillary Clinton's judgment," American Rising said in a statement.

It further wants former President Bill Clinton to return speaking fees from foreign governments and commit not to take any more foreign-funded engagements.

The Clinton Foundation has served to facilitate many of the former first lady's recent public appearances.

As she prepares for her expected presidential bid, Clinton has remained involved with the foundation's philanthropic activities, Politico reported.
